Luxury retailer Ralph Lauren Corp has embraced QR Code technology by recently launching a mobile commerce website in tandem with print advertising, mailers and store windows using QR codes to drive tech savvy consumers to their new site. The store window displays will allow passers-by to scan the QR code and purchase the items without even entering the shop.
Just imagine rushing home from work quickly scanning the window display on the way past and finishing your order while jumping on the bus to commute home. Lauren's design team observed shoppers scanning QR codes to purchase items on a trip to Tokyo (around 80-90% of mobile phones support QR code in Japan where the technology has been around for about 10 years). US users simply need to text rlqr to 65056 to download a reader. It also seems that Ralph Lauren are also planning on using the US Open tennis tournament to promote their QR Code advertising. See a video on how the Ralph Lauren QR codewould work.
Harrods (UK) also recently launched advertising in print medium in the hope of attracting thought leaders and students with a similar view of targeting the tech savvy market. More on Harrods using QR codes can be found on this site.
